Get your website approved in Google AdSense following this simple steps

You've recently purchased your domain and want to start monetizing your website through Google AdSense, then you must follow this guide. I will explain step by step how I got my website approved in Google AdSense without a single denial. I will split this article into 2 sections, tips and tricks on how to secure your AdSense approval process, and what to expect from the Google AdSense program when your website is approved.

1. Tips and Tricks for Securing AdSense Approval

According to Google AdSense verification process documentation, it can usually take a couple of days. However, if your application was denied and you request another review, it can take up to 2-4 weeks to get an answer and the period may increase based on how many times you requested a new review.

Have the bare minimum pages

Make sure your website includes the essential pages required for credibility and user trust. It is recomended to have the minimum pages required, and the most important pages are your Main Page, About, Terms/Policies/Conditions/Disclaimer, Contact Page, and obviously, your main activity page, what is your business about whether you are offering a free service, files converter, qr codes generators, or other types of online services.

Making Your Domain Recognized in Search Engines

If you just bought the domain, don't just jump to Google AdSense, you should allow up to a couple of months for your domain to be crawled by search engine bots. Google expects your website to be content-rich in order to allow you to place ads.

  1. Upload your sitemap to Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools to allow your domain to be indexed in search engines. This will tell the Ads Crawler that your website is prepared to serve Ads and have content worth placing ads on.
  2. Make sure you allow Google AdSense bots to crawl your website. This is done through your robots.txt. If your robots.txt is controlled by the framework you are using to build your website, make sure it allows User-agent: Mediapartners-Google to crawl.
  3. Do not use other Ad Serving services, this will result in a denial right away.

2. Maximizing your Ads Revenues once your website is approved

When building your website, strategically create areas and blocks to allow AdSense scripts to place ad units, whether you're manually placing ads or enabling Google Automatic Ads. Ensure enough space for the ad scripts to identify suitable ad placements without distracting users from your main content. Customize ad placements by excluding certain sections of your website through your AdSense Account settings presented in the pictures below and use semantic elements like "article" and "section" html dom elements depending on your content, this will allow AdSense to place ads between these elements. Note that when utilizing Bootstrap, AutoAds may place Ad Units between columns, thus breaking your website layout. Refer to this article for guidance on resolving incorrect Google Ads placement within Bootstrap rows.

Implementing Consent Management Platform (CMP)

Since 2018, it has been mandatory to use a Consent Management Platform (CMP) to serve ads in the UK and EEA. Google offers a free CMP within the AdSense Account settings. Configure the CMP to comply with European regulations, and select the sites where consent messages should appear.

Focusing on Niche and Keyword Strategy

To maximize AdSense revenues, you should be focusing on the following aspects:

  • Social media engagement: Build a strong social media community, this is to ensure instant insights whenever you post new content. This can lead to a high number of views way before Google indexes your content. As you can see, I'm currently lacking this part, however, my website was approved.
  • Lower your expectations to stay motivated: Always keep your expectations low, this will keep you motivated to work towards your content. Never settle for temporary good results. With the experience of the new Google's March 2024 Core Update aiming to prevent AI-generated content spam, Reddit blown up with posts from content creators losing profit because their websites were completely wiped from search results. Having low expectations will help you step over these kinds of situations just as I did, during this update, I managed to double my traffic.
  • Using AI to generate content: This leads to point number 3, do not rely on AI-generated content. I've done several tests with full AI-generated content, 90% resulted in plagiarism, while original content where I used AI to fix grammar mistakes but keep the original wording resulted in no plagiarism as well as a good ranking score. According to the new Google Content Update from March 2024, which aimed to remove spam, low-quality content, and AI-generated content from search results, focusing primarily on AI-generated content could result in your website being completely removed from search results. Therefore, it's crucial to have high-quality human-written content. If you use an AI to fix grammar mistakes, ensure that the system doesn't distort the real meaning of your content, for more informations you can read AI-Generated Content's Impact on SEO: Quality, Scalability, & Challenges.
  • Overplacing Ad units: Do not overplace Ad Units in your content, this will result in a bad user experience that leads to a high bounce rate. The bounce rate measures how long a unique session stayed on your website. Sessions that leave the website within 10 seconds from being created or haven't triggered an event on the website result in an increased bounce rate, meaning the content was not very helpful and shouldn't be indexed.
